About Us
Bioskoop is an online platform and was founded on 13 March 2015 by Rick Bronkhorst.
The purpose of the website is to publish and release news, reviews and video interviews about the South African film industry. The website focuses on feature films that are released at traditional cinemas or on well-known streaming services. Although Bioskoop’s focus is on Afrikaans films, films in English and other South African languages are also covered from time to time.

Our Kind Sponsors

The Bioskoop Story
We founded Bioskoop in March 2015 with an initial team of four members dedicated to contributing news, reviews, and video interviews to our website in Afrikaans. Initially, we focused solely on the Afrikaans film industry, but we soon broadened our scope to encompass the entire South African film industry, including English South African films.
Our platform grew, and our audience kept returning for more articles and insightful reviews from our highly qualified team. Yet, our passion for film drove us to share our enthusiasm with a wider audience. In 2019, Bioskoop was registered as a non-profit organisation (NPC), and we are currently working towards registering as a public benefit organisation (PBO). This status will allow you to donate to Bioskoop and claim those funds back from the South African Revenue Services (SARS).
Bioskoop aims to establish a fund to alleviate the financial burden of tertiary studies for students aspiring to study drama or filmmaking at colleges or universities in South Africa. Yes, we’re dreaming big, and we believe everyone should. As Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”
We have several exciting plans for the bright future of Bioskoop, and we are eager to share our knowledge and expertise with the future filmmakers of South Africa. Our dream is to foster a filmmaking community that supports each other at all levels—a community where people cheer for their peers until it’s their turn, rather than breaking each other down to get to the top.
Through education, we can change lives, bring financial inclusivity to families, and showcase South Africa to the world. Not just for financial gain, but because our country genuinely has a tremendous amount of potential and beauty to share. May we pass on this legacy of love to future generations, as that is what their inheritance from us should be—a bright future.
